Or, at least realize (in your heart, not head) that noise happens and it's not about eliminating it so much as managing it.

Once you see how grainy a hundred-million dollar movie can be you might decide your level of grain is fine. Take a very critical look at the image quality of current shows, then render yourself a video of your own stuff and try to view it on a TV at a normal 10-foot viewing distance, not with your nose against the monitor at editing distance. I've seen the videos you posted and don't remember giving opinions on excessive grain. You may be beating your head on the wall for something that's not an issue and no one else will notice (especially if your videos go on YouTube). We EXPECT noise because film has grain (noise) and video also has noise. Cinestyle also adds noise in the default settings. Gradients have a "scatter parameter" which adds noise. Let me point out many Hitfilm effects ADD noise and grain. I restate again that noise happens, and, if you cut ALL noise from a frame that will also look bad-too smooth, too plastic, probably with banding. That's what noise reduction plug ins are for. So, to actually answer your question, transcoding will not do anything to reduce noise. No joke, go stream a something off Hulu or Netflix or a DVD/Blu-Ray and see just how much noise, banding and artifacts end up in big-budget projects. There's a possibility that, now that you're making your own videos, noise, banding and image artifacts previously un-noticed are bothering you because it's your project.

Now, a t5 is a lower end Canon, so it will have more noise than a 5D mk IV or cinema camera, but, you can look up noise tests for many cameras-and you'll see cameras rated "usable" at exposures and ISO levels where noise is obvious. There's actually a scene in "A Quiet Place," where the sheer amount of noise distracted me for a half-second. I don't have a t5 to look at, but, to reiterate a point, noise happens with every camera. It's too time consuming and, as mentioned above, I just don't have the capabilities to do this kind of stuff.

I'm not running footage through other editing software, exporting it, and then re-importing into hitfilm. I actually use smart converter to convert trail camera videos into quicktime.Ĭan somebody with the patience of a saint please break this down slow.like, by the numbers? You take the clip, drop it in, convert, and that's it. When somebody says to convert a file, I think of something like smart converter or something. I already have Hitfilm and DaVinci Resolve (which I pretty much never use) and it's stretching my computer's capabilities as it is. I don't know what it is or what it does, but people said to do it.Īs far Vegas, and FCP, and whatever else mentioned by iNate.those are video editing platforms, correct? I'm not installing anymore of those.

Prores (whatever that is exactly) was suggested.especially for Mac users. That I should transcode (convert) video files for better editing. I told you guys I was an idiot when it came to this stuff. I keep revisiting this topic, but still only understand it on a 3rd grade level. I'm not sure which comment you're referring to though.
